I think the reason for the dissatisaction with the way things are headed this decade stems more from inflation than from the "wealth gap". With gas, food and housing prices rising faster than wages, the middle class feels squeezed. In the 1990s, we had a similar level of headline inflation, but these core middle class staples were generally cheap.

The polls back this up. The biggest complaints have been prices all along (including, third on the list, the PRICE of healthcare).

Why neither presidential candidate has picked up on the inflation issue is beyond me.
