Below we highlight the year to date performance of the for-profit managed health care companies in the S&P 500. Judging by their performance this year, their business models are clearly not thriving. Investors seem to be worried about how these firms have managed their investment portfolios as well as the very real prospect of nationalized health care.

Nationalized health care? If that's why these stocks got killed, they are screaming buys. Neither presidential candidate is proposing anything like nationalized healthcare. I think that idea went down with Dennis Kucinich. McCain is offering tax credits to pay for private plans and Obama's plan is similar to what Republican Governor Mitt Romney enacted in Massachusetts.
