At right we highlight the performance of the ten major sectors of the S&P 500 for the month of October and since the index bottomed on August 15th. As shown, Tech blew the cover off in October, up 7.13% versus the S&P 500's return of 1.48%. Utilities, Materials, Health Care and Consumer Staples also outperformed the broad market, while Energy, Consumer Discretionary, Industrials, Telecom and Financials underperformed. Financials were down the most for the month at -1.99%. Since the August lows, Materials have been the best performers, followed by Tech and Energy. The S&P 500 is now up just over 10% since August 15th.
